Popup deer lamp

Hi All,
In this blog, I will share how to make this beautiful paper deer lamp at home.
It does not need any special tools or power tools.... just paper cutter and soldering iron

Step 1: What Do We Need ?

Materials

  • Cartridge paper
  • Template ( Link in next step)
  • Paper cutter
  • LED Strip
  • LED 12V driver
  • Wires
  • Glue stick
  • Soldering iron

Step 2: Design Credits

This project is inspired by Carlo DC's work, the download link is embedded in description of the video, alternatively click here

Deviations in approach :

  • Used cartridge paper instead of a cardboard
  • Printed on A4 sheet scaling set at "fit to page"

Step 3: Prepare

  • Stick the 4 corners of the templates to cartridge paper
  • We want to remove the template later so do not apply glue in the main area
  • Always print two copies of template

Step 4: Ball Pen Trace

  • Before we start cutting, use an old pen to trace impression of the lines
  • This will help later as guide to fold and stick

Step 5: Cut Smaller Sections First

  • Before we cut the outer edges, we must cut the inside sections
  • If you are using a cartridge paper as me, then just cut the slots and horn
  • Skip the square cut from the base section
  • If using cardboard, cut as per the template

Step 6: Cutting

  • Cut the edges as per template
  • Fold and stick the edges

Step 7: LED

I used 2 pieces of LED strips ( each pieces has 3 LEDs and runs at 12V )
One piece goes on the top for horns and second for face
Connect them in parallel and with 5.5mm DC connector

Step 8: Cleaning

This is the most important step before we continue, one must cleanup all the mess

Step 9: Admire

  • Plus the lamp to the 12V adapter or 12V LED driver
  • Hang it on the wall
  • Admire!!!!

Future : Paper is bit delicate to work, I am thinking to make this with cardboard as Carl DC did. And bigger LED rather than a strip

Please share your suggestions and comments
