How to make a Wind Chimes at Home

Hi All,

I remember there was a trend for installing one near windows for better prosperity. For me Wind chimes are cool to listen, someway relaxes your mind.... and you can irritate your wife

Do not use it when your wife is sleeping...

Reference : home.fuse.net. Amazing site, huge information on chimes, how they work.

What you need :
- Metallic pipes about 6 to 7 feet
- PVC Strings (thin/ transparent)
- Rs 2 coin for Striker
- Peace of a Card board 3 x 3 " ( wind catcher)
- Wood - Circular shape
- Chime pipe calculator

Step 1: Use a calculator calculate the length of pipes; I used from the above site
The length and sound depends on
- on material; Aluminum / Stainless steel
- Outer diameter
- inner diameter
- Nodes ( 5 / 7)

I made two, one with Steel and one with Aluminium
5 node : DIY_Wind_Chime_Tube_Calculator_A=440_Pentatonic_Scale
7 node : All Musical Notes DIY Chime Tube Calculator (A=440)

Personal Recommendation: Use Aluminum. Do not use Stainless Steel

Step 2: Cut the metal pipes as per the lengths. ad drill holes for hanging strings at 22% of the length ( Best sound at 22%)

Step 3 : Drill holes in the circular wood, so hang the metal pipes using string

Step 4 : Use a Rs 2 coin as striker,This will strike the pipes to make chines. Hang it using string and attached the cardboard  to it. So when the wind blows this label will move the striker to make chimes

Step 5: Decorate it

Step 6: Hang it near the window. If the striker hits the pipes too often, try putting some weights on the cardboard.
